Calculating team standings

Postby shunt4 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:18 am

Hi, I have a question...we parents like to see how our team is doing throughout the season, and get an idea of how we're going to place at the end. I hear different theories of how the standings are calculated, and wondered how it was actually done. First, you have wins, and then I understand you figure in goals scored against your team. Do you first go by wins, then if it's a tie add in goals scored against? Can a team that's ahead in wins be outranked by another team if they have more goals scored against them?
Thanks for any explanation.

This information is located in the Fall rules located in the Coaches section. Most parents never head in there so it is understandable that there are questions about the tie breaker rules in the standings. Here are the rules in order:

  • Head to Head Record
  • Goals Against
  • Coin Toss
In the case where three or more teams have the same number of points, all teams must have played each other for the head-to-head rule to be used. If they have not all played each other then goals against will be the next rule to be used.

I hope this answers your question. Let us know if you need any additional clarification.
